The Village Oak Tree

Interview with Danielle Orsino

Cead Fáilte

Welcome to The Village Oak Tree for September 11th, 2024

I bring to you an interview with an award winning author, martial artist and cosplayer, Ms. Danielle Orsino. She is famous for her series “Birth of the Fae”, which can be found on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Bookshop.org. Please visit her website at birthofthefae.com to learn more about her books and the author herself.

In this hour long podcast she introduces herself a wee bit and then we get down to the nitty gritty of how badly traditional brick and mortar publishing house treat authors in order to satisfy their bottom line, not the authors, her struggles with them, my own struggles with self-publishing, and her new plans for revising her series with a new look to be on the shelves by the end of this year.

This is an engaging interview that may open some eyes on corporate America, the traditional publishing industry, and the growth of self-publishing platforms because of all of the abuse.

Her main complaint is the lack of royalties paid out by these corporations, and their unwillingness to allows authors their creative ideas for selling their books. Authors should not have to fight with editors and marketers with these companies to publish a book or two.

I am so glad I went with self-publishing right out of the gate with my book. I won’t even consider shopping it with any traditional publishers after talking to her. This also applies to any books I write in the future as well. Reedsy and I are going to have a long relationship, albeit an expensive one, going forward.

Speaking of which, I do have something I am writing right now. I am currently in the middle of writing a fictional anthology of short stories about U.S. military servicemembers. The stories cover the decades from the 1970’s up to the last decade of war in Afghanistan and Iraq. I am about halfway through and I hope to have it ready for an editor at Reedsy by the end of this year. Depending on how long that takes, I may have it ready to read by next spring.

I already have a cover designer waiting in the wings to get to work as soon as I am finished with the manuscript, so wish me luck.

I am working on another interview with another award winning author for sometime in the near future. Plus some others of a more political nature. But that is the thread of this podcast. Talking about the things that matter to us as a village.

I glad you joined me once again under The Village Oak Tree as I keep coming back every week with something of interest, or at least what I hope is of some interest to a few anyway.

As I say good bye this week, I wish to leave you with this Irish blessing as you go about your day. "May your hand always be stretched out in friendship and never in anger" Slán go fóill.
