The Village Oak Tree Stories and Poetry

November 20th, 2024

Fáilte

Welcome to The Village Oak Tree Stories and Poetry

I am Terrance Ó Domhnaill, your scéalaí, back with more stories and poems from authors around the world.

I know it's been a couple of weeks since I have read any stories or poetry but I have been busy lately with other projects outside of media. If you are listening to this on WAA Radio, you know that they have been running older shows while I have been on a break. As I mentioned on my last show a couple of weeks ago, this is how things will be this year.

For today's show, I have another episode of The Grave Diggers of Orpheus chapter 12, A dystopian future story and the first chapter of a new fantasy. I will save chapter two for the next time I read stories for everyone. Plus, two poems that I think people will like.

So gather round once more and let me read to you under the shade of The Village Oak Tree.

I am not going to add much here today as the first section pretty much sums it all up. I am trying not to jam myself up too much these days as I have been working away from home a lot this month and it looks like I will be doing the same in December. So much for being retired.

My wife is not real happy with me for picking up this work but as I explained to her, I never really quit working for them and all of a sudden I get called to help them with a big regional IT project.

We agreed that I am going to update my retirement date with this company to as soon as this current project is finished. At my age, I don’t need to be running all over my region dealing with internal politics between the clients and the vendor.

I will try to offer something for everyone next week, if I can clear my schedule. I may end up creating something over the weekend and scheduling the post for next Wednesday, like I did this week. I am growing to like that little convenience.

Whether it will be more stories and poems or world affairs I don’t know yet. The whole world is coming undone right now so I may post something about the continuing madness.

As I say good bye this week, I wish to leave you with this Irish blessing as you go about your day. "May we find some peace and joy in our world so we can all live in harmony with all of the people in it." Slán go fóill - goodbye for now.

I woke up alone on the beach, masked in clouds of spray. When I sat up, the rising tide hit me in the face like a frozen sheet. I snatched my leatherback off the sand, where I’d been using it as a pillow, and ran up the beach into the dunes. In the darkness I tripped on driftwood, and strands of plastic…
