The Village Oak Tree

Interview with Author Robert Cook

Céad Fáilte

Welcome back to The Village Oak Tree for September 18th, 2024.

This week, I interviewed an author who specializes in writing books about soldiers and the middle east. We talk a little bit about the middle east and the situation there and his latest book, The Mahdi, which he recommends if you truly want a deep dive into the Palestinian situation.

He has written three other novels about his character, Cooch, which follow this soldier through various situations sort of like the Jack Ryan character from the Tom Clancy’s series.

I wished I had had the time to read all of his books ahead of the interview but that would have taken months and this gentleman might not have that much time. I still plan to order them and read just for my own entertainment because they do look like a good read.

I have always enjoyed books like these in the past so maybe I will do a book report when I am finished.

I have a couple more interviews coming up over the next couple of weeks. Next week, I have another interview with a different author who writes humorous stories about a young adult who likes to play detective. Our interview focuses more on the publishing industry than her books though. Much like last week’s guest.

Enjoy the interview today for what its worth and if you like to read books like the one shown here, this is available in Amazon and other book retailers at a reasonable price.

In other news, I plan on rearranging my Facebook page to set up a book group kind of like the old tradition of friends getting together once a week or a month to read and review a book they like. I got the idea from next week’s guest when we recorded the interview yesterday.

I currently have a separate Facebook page for commercial purposes that is serving no purpose right now so it is going to go away this week. I like the idea of searching out Facebook book groups and visiting my local library to ask about any local groups that they may know of and start networking my own book and promote others here. I hope that works better than what I have been doing.

I have managed to update my books page on Amazon lately with all sorts of new marketing ads that are way better than anything I had previously. I also used the same SEO to update my ads on Barnes & Noble, Lulu and Ingram Spark. Here is a link to my Amazon page. Let me know what you think.

Fugitives in a New United States

I need to make a change in my focus for my podcasts and spend more time marketing my published book, and finish writing the ones I have started. I have two started, one on digital paper about halfway finished, and another still in my head waiting to lay out in Microsoft Word soon.

So much to do and not enough time it seems. Just when I thought things were going to slow down a bit, something else comes up. Oh well, such is life as many can relate.

I appreciate everyone who pays a little bit of attention to my musings here, such as they are. I am not sure about the future of this podcast as everyone, including me, seems to have lost interest and I am foundering as to how to find more interesting things to talk about. I am sure I will run out of authors to interview soon and then what?

And maybe that’s not a bad thing. I have been contemplating the future and I do want to spend more time writing instead of bemoaning the state of politics and wars around the world on a podcast. With so many other Substackers jumping on that bandwagon already, I feel lost in the chafe so it’s time for a change.

Big changes are coming for everyone around the world very soon, whether we like it or not and I think it is time to gear up for a rocky future. Creating near meaningless podcasts does little to help with that. Writing blog articles and books though, offers a bit more of a punch.

Thank you once again this week. I will return again next week with what I hope will be a more lively and interesting interview. Sláinte
